“We have to make tough choices and smart investments today so that as the economy recovers, the deficit starts to come down. We cannot have a solid recovery if our people and our businesses don’t have confidence that we’re getting our fiscal house in order. That’s why our goal is not to create a slew of new government programs, but a foundation for long-term economic growth.
“That also means an economic recovery plan that is free from earmarks and pet projects. I understand that every member of Congress has ideas on how to spend money. Many of these projects are worthy, and benefit local communities. But this emergency legislation must not be the vehicle for those aspirations. This must be a time when leaders in both parties put the urgent needs of our nation above our own narrow interests.”

I can’t read it without hearing Obama’s voice. Feels like his cadence and wording.
…says I before I find out it was Eric Cantor.
You are correct…these are the words of our President. What changed between today and Thursday, January 8th when the President gave this speech at George Mason University. The question is will he now veto the pork laden bill or will he show his true colors and happily sign this it into law…hum
Maybe he has been reading your blog….
Interesting that he defined it as an emergency. Times are definitely hard but do they really qualify for emergency status?
Hey Doug, this is kind of a side comment, almost not applicable at all to this post, but I wanted to post on a more recent update.
How serious and “scary” do you think it is that Obama’s economic stimulus bill passed with not a single Republican vote? What does this mean for the long term future of our nations politics, and do you think we are headed for a form of divided government? However, could this possibly be a better option?
Thanks again for doing this. Love reading it.

Beware of government by orders, especially orders issued on the run!

We should be encouraging his use of good ideas it will ultimately be the thing that changes the things that need to be changed.Ok i talk about the things i brought to the table like the banks needing to pay back the money they got and fast or else they could be viewed as swindlers seeing as though they were getting major bonuses and crying broke at the same time.or plans on the economy and the health plan and assuring him of the civillian level of innovators and warning him of those who are willing to steal ideas to fatten their own pockets while those who probally prayed for something to help feed their family’s come about with these things.so while you are coming up with phrazes were coming up with solutions to real problems.love jesus
