Our Mission
To examine the philosophical ideas and principles which were foundational to the beliefs of the Founders as they constructed the U. S. Constitution which then provided for the advancement of individual liberty, limited government, free-markets, and religious freedom, thus creating the freest and most prosperous people in history.
Further, it is our mission to state these principles, in a clear and concise manner, so as to make them available to the average citizen, in the hope of providing a lens through which individuals will be able to bring their thinking, about liberty, into focus thereby clearing away the fog which clouds the real issues which threaten the liberties we enjoy and which we are in danger of losing.
Finally, we endeavor to advance these ideas, into the general population, creating an informed constituency, who will pursue further reflection and study on the ideas of liberty and thus engage their culture, politicians, neighbors, co-workers and family members in an intelligent and articulate manner, thereby, creating even more citizens defending liberty.
Our Method
We agree with the “Teacher,” who wrote the book of Ecclesiastes, when he said that “there is nothing new under the sun.” We are not searching for some new idea that will create the utopia for which everyone longs. In fact, we believe that human freedom has made the most progress because of the constitutional republic that we enjoy as Americans. So we will not abandon the ideas that secured our liberties. Pericles, a Greek Statesman, (c. 495-429 BC), made this statement:
What was the road by which we reached our position, what the form of government under which our greatness grew, what the national habits out of which it sprang?…If we look to the laws, they afford equal justice to all in their private differences;…The freedom which we enjoy in our government extends also to ordinary life…
And we agree that we should not abandon “the form of government under which our greatness grew.” Instead, we will bring those “old” ideas, which our Founders cherished, to our audience in an effort to inform and discuss their application to our government and on down to our “ordinary life.” And, as these principles inform us of the proper role of government and individual responsibility, we will see the way forward to retaining our freedom.
Our Commitment
For Freedom’s Sake is committed to engaging and defending the philosophical ideas which underlie the God given freedoms as articulated by Thomas Jefferson in The Declaration of Independence:
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. — That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed…
